Open Architecture Network Guidelines

Generating design opportunities that improve living standards for all

The Open Architecture Network is a gathering place for community designers and all those interested in improving the built environment. Here designers of all persuasions can post their projects, browse projects posted by others, comment and review projects, discuss relevant topics, contribute to shared resources, collaborate with each other and access project management tools to support their work. This site not only helps create, support and implement ideas, but also fosters sustainable, replicable, adaptable and scalable design solutions.

Keep Your Work Above Board

As you spend time on the site, we ask that you respect not only the golden section but also the golden rule—and treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. As a participant in the Open Architecture Network, you are expected to maintain the highest level of respect in your communications and in your use of designers' work.

Here are some ways to stay on the up and up:

  • Be clear about a designer's copyright and licensing rights before you post content or borrow from their work. In addition to any copyright, designers' work is protected by a licensing system developed by Creative Commons. This enables designers to share their work freely, while protecting their intellectual property rights and shielding them from unwarranted uses of their design. Work is also subject to our Terms of Use.

  • The Open Architecture Network is not a place to promote commercial products. Content that could be perceived as advertising for a particular brand or firm will be removed.

  • Stay on topic. What do we mean by this? Off topic: Pictures of your dog Fluffy (even if he is your office intern). On topic: Green roof systems for healthcare centers. Non-architecture related content may be removed by the moderator.

  • Criticism and feedback is an important component of the collaborative design process. However, hate speech that contains slurs or the malicious use of stereotypes intended to attack or demean a particular gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or nationality is not permitted. Posts with hateful or malicious comments will be removed by the moderator.

  • The Open Architecture Network is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. Sexy designs, yes. Sexy anything else will be removed. Got it?

  • There is zero tolerance for predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, invading privacy, or the revealing of other members' personal information. Anyone caught doing these things will be permanently banned from the Open Architecture Network.

  • All vulgar or obscene content will be removed without warning.

All content is subject to moderation, even if it's private. Violations of the Terms of Use may result in a warning notification or may result in removal from our site, at our discretion. If you are banned, you will be prevented from re-registering.

The Open Architecture Network is for the Community
