Strawbale School Project; Kashmir, Pakistan

Overviewteamupdatesworkspacecalendarfiles

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Project was developed as an "Quick-Rebuilt" project after the earthquakes in the Kashmir region of Pakistan. The aim of the project is, to provide quick, warm and earthquake proof facilities after an earthquake. The buildings are made of rice-strawbales which are available localy. The more complicated parts are made locally in regions which where not effected by the earthquake; so other parts of the country can offer help and the added value stays within the country. These parts can be either flown in by helicopter if its possible and very quick shelter is needed (e.g. Small hospitals) or transported by truck. The strawbale buildings have several advantages: local materials (straw, wood); earthquake resistant, if built correctly and plastered on both sides; warm (no heating needed, if built correctly; very quick and incomparable cheap building process. The project could be realized in every region with provides straw (rice, cereal e.g.) and needs warm, earthquake proof, cost optimized buildings. It would be also privileged to be realized in Nepal.
