PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
VIVA FOOTBALL
This building must be shaped by the particularities of the site. Assuming a Western Cape township, we located the building on the Southwestern side of the site to protect the playing field from the strong Southwesterly winds.
Considering the harsh climate, we propose making the most compact building possible so that durable materials can be used to give the facility longevity. Therefore we make a multi-purpose space that can act as waiting space for the clinic / classroom / dressing room and building only the toilets, the treatment rooms and the pharmacy of the clinic. The rest of the accommodation can be located in containers or other self-build solutions.
We believe that formal raked seating will be unaffordable and can be replaced by a berm that can serve two fields.
The main architectural element is the undulating façade that face the field. This façade is decorated with a pattern of soccer balls stenciled onto the façade and a big soccer ball facing the entrance that in a simple way communicate the purpose of the complex. One side of the field should be exposed to the street so the excitement of the place can lure people.
At R 3500 /m² the 220m² building will cost R 770 000.
The main structure is clay brick (or sun baked brick) which is plastered and painted. The roof is made of corrugated iron on wooden beams. Floors are granolithic screed with vinyl in selected areas.
