The hurricane house is earthquake, flood, hurricane, and insect resistant. It moves on a bed of gravel or on two beams and is tied down with cables that can be adjusted to let it float if a flood occurs. It is ideal for emergency, transitional, or permanent housing and can be stacked to form a five unit apartment. It can be constructed with fiberglas, rebar and sheet metal, basket material, or scrap lumber, depending on what is available. A basic house in the tropics can be built as low as $2500. It has about 300 square feet.
