Hex-Vend

An Open Call for Ideas (Competition)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Since the Red Hook Food Vendors set up next to the soccer field, the soccer game is a significant part of the marketplace's atmosphere. In order to strengthen this association, bringing together people entering the park for the game and those entering for the food, the vendors' kiosks are hexagons, like the skin of the soccer ball. The grills, fridges and sinks are rolled and stored together within a few kiosks. The others fold flat. The tables come together to form covers and the kiosks are locked. Retractable wheels allow the hexagons to be arranged, layered and locked together to form seating or performance space. In this way, the hexagonal kiosks are always in use and always an architectural presence in Red Hook Park.
